Getting into Cyprus is step one. Staying there requires discipline. The Migration Department in Nicosia is stricter with renewals than with initial visas. They want to prove you are still a genuine student, not just a worker.
Here is your 2026 guide to renewing your Pink Slip without stress.
1. When to Apply (The “2-Month” Rule)
-
Deadline: You must submit your renewal application at least 2 months before your current permit expires.
-
Why? Appointments at the Immigration Unit are hard to get.
-
Grace Period: If your card expires while you are waiting for your appointment, don’t panic. As long as you have the “Application Receipt” (proof you applied), you are legal.
2. The Documents Checklist (2026)
Renewal is easier than the first application (no new medicals!), but the paperwork must be perfect.
-
Application Form: Form M61 or MEDU1 (get this from your college).
-
Passport: Valid for at least 2 years.
-
Bank Statement: This is critical.
-
You typically need to show a balance of €800 – €1,500 in your Cyprus bank account.
-
Pro Tip: Do not just deposit the money one day before. Show some transaction history (buying food, paying rent) to prove you live there.
-
-
Health Insurance: Renewal of your private medical insurance (approx. €175/year).
-
Rental Agreement: Valid for the next academic year.
-
Fee: €70 application fee.
I have a 4-year Offer Letter. Why is my visa expiring?
In Cyprus, your student visa is NOT valid for the whole degree. It is only valid for 1 year at a time. You must renew your Temporary Residence Permit (Pink Slip) annually. The Danger: If you miss the renewal deadline or have low attendance, you will become an “illegal overstayer” overnight and face deportation.
3. The “Attendance” Trap (Why Renewals Get Rejected)
This is the #1 reason Indian students get deported.
-
The Rule: Your college must give you a Confirmation of Enrollment letter for renewal.
-
The Catch: They will NOT issue this letter if your class attendance is below 70%.
-
The Reality: If you skipped classes to work double shifts at a restaurant, you will not get the letter. Without the letter, the Migration Department will reject your renewal and give you 10 days to leave Cyprus.
4. Do I Need Medical Tests Again?
Good News: Generally, NO.
-
If you have stayed in Cyprus continuously, you do not need to repeat the HIV/TB/Hep-B blood tests and X-rays.
-
Exception: If you left Cyprus for more than 3 months (e.g., went to India for summer and stayed too long), your residence might be considered “broken,” and you may need new medicals.
5. Failed Subjects & “Re-Examination”
Cyprus allows you to fail, but not too much.
-
If you fail all your modules, the Immigration Officer will question your intent.
-
The Fix: You must register for Re-Exams before your visa renewal. Show the receipt that you have paid for the re-sits. This proves you are trying to improve academically.
