Basics of the Cyprus Student Visa 2026: Eligibility, “Pink Slip” & Process

Studying in Cyprus offers a unique blend of British-style education (thanks to its colonial history) and Mediterranean lifestyle. But the visa process is very different from Schengen countries.

You don’t just get a “Student Visa” in India and fly. You get an Entry Permit first, and then apply for your Residence Permit (Pink Slip) after you land. Confused? Let’s break it down simply.

1. Eligibility: Who Can Apply?

Admissions in Cyprus are generally more flexible than in Germany or Canada.

  • Academic:

    • Undergraduate: 12th Grade pass with at least 50-55% marks.

    • Postgraduate: A valid Bachelor’s degree.

  • Language: IELTS is often waived if you have good marks in English in 12th grade (CBSE/ICSE), but having a score of 5.5+ makes your visa interview much easier.

  • Age: There is no strict age limit, but study gaps must be justified with work experience.

2. The Financial Requirement (2026)

Cyprus wants to know you can afford your stay.

  • Bank Statement: You must show a minimum of €7,000 (approx. ₹6.5 – ₹7 Lakhs) in your sponsor’s bank account.

  • Validity: The statement should be recent (last 3-6 months).

  • Tuition Fee: You typically need to pay €3,000 to €4,000 of your tuition fee before the visa interview to get the “Final Acceptance Letter.”

Did you know?

  • Cyprus is one of the most affordable study destinations in Europe. Unlike Germany or the UK, you don’t need a massive Blocked Account. However, they are extremely strict about Medical Tests and Cash on Arrival.

3. The “Blue Slip” vs. “Pink Slip”

This is where students get confused.

1.In India (Entry Visa): You apply for an Entry Permit (often on a blue paper or stamped in passport). This allows you to enter Cyprus.

2.In Cyprus (Pink Slip): Within 10 days of arrival, you must go to the Migration Department to apply for your Temporary Residence Permit (Pink Slip). This is your actual ID card that allows you to live there legally.

4. The Critical Step: Medicals & Attestation

Cyprus is stricter than any other EU country about health.

  • In India: Before your interview, you must get tested for HIV, Hepatitis B & C, Syphilis, and Tuberculosis (Chest X-Ray).

  • Attestation: Your medical reports and Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) must be Apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India. Without the Apostille sticker, your documents are useless in Cyprus.

5. Arrival Day: The “€2,000 Rule”

When you land at Larnaca or Paphos airport, immigration officers often check your cash.

  • The Rule: You must carry at least €2,000 in hard cash.

  • Why? To prove you can survive the first few months before your bank account is set up.

  • Warning: If you don’t have the cash, they can deport you on the next flight back to India.
