Cyprus Short-Term Study Visa 2026

Cyprus is perfect for short-term upskilling—whether it’s a 2-month Hotel Management certification, a summer English camp, or a specialized IT workshop.

Here is the 2026 guide on how to do it legally using the Category C Visa.

1. What is the Category C (Short-Stay) Visa?

This is the standard “Tourist/Visitor” visa.

  • Duration: Maximum 90 days stay within a 180-day period.

  • Permitted Activities: Tourism, Visiting Family, Business Meetings, and Short-Term Study.

  • Who is this for?

    • Students attending Summer Schools.

    • Professionals taking a short certification (e.g., Culinary Arts or Marine Safety).

    • Students appearing for entrance exams.

2. The “Schengen Exemption” (The Golden Rule)

Do you already have a valid visa for France, Germany, or Italy?

  • The Rule: If you hold a valid Double or Multiple Entry Schengen Visa, you do not need a separate Cyprus visa.

  • Condition: You must have already used the Schengen visa to enter a Schengen country first.

  • Benefit: You can fly directly to Larnaca to attend your short course without paying the Cyprus visa fee!

Can I go on a Tourist Visa and convert it to a Student Visa?

    • Many students are sold a dream that they can enter Cyprus on a cheap Visitor Visa, do a short course, and then stay forever. The Truth: The Visitor Visa (Type C) is strictly for stays under 90 days. You cannot work, and you usually cannot convert it to a full Student Residence Permit (“Pink Slip”) without returning to India.

    3. The “No Work” Trap (Why Students Get Deported)

This is the most important warning we can give you. On a Type C Visa, employment is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

    • The Risk: If you are caught working “cash-in-hand” at a restaurant while doing your short course, you will be deported, and your name will be added to the “Stop List.”

    • The Consequence: You will be banned from entering Cyprus (and likely the EU) for up to 5 years.

    • Our Advice: Only use this visa for genuine learning. If you want to work, apply for a full-time Student Visa (Type D).

    4. Documents Required for Short-Term Study

To get this visa approved, you must prove you are a genuine learner, not an illegal migrant.

    1. Invitation/Enrollment Letter: From the Cypriot institution, stating the exact dates of the course (must be under 90 days).

    2. Assumption of Responsibility: If the school is providing accommodation, they must sign this form.

    3. Solvency Proof: Bank statements showing you have enough money (approx. €50-€100 per day) to survive without working.

    4. Return Ticket: Mandatory proof that you intend to leave.

    5. Can I Extend My Stay?

    • The Rule: No. Short-stay visas are rarely extended.

    • Exception: Unless there is a medical emergency or force majeure (like a pandemic), you must leave on or before Day 90. Overstaying even by one day will result in a heavy fine at the airport.
